Eagle Point Police Arrest Suspect After Domestic Violence Incident

Eagle Point, Oregon- On July 3rd, 2024, at approximately 5:01 p.m., officers from the Eagle Point Police Department responded to a disturbance reported at 111 Onyx St. A neighbor had called dispatch, reporting banging sounds and yelling from a lower-level apartment.

Officers arrived at the scene and located the disturbance. Upon approach, they heard the commotion and observed a female in a back bedroom through an open window. As they made contact with her, a male, later identified as Kevin Heater, ran into the apartment. Officers helped the female escape through the window.

Heater attempted to flee through the front door but was confronted by additional officers. He refused to comply with commands and ran into an adjoining apartment, securing the door behind him. Officers then surrounded the building.

Further investigation revealed Heater had assaulted the female and restricted her breathing. It was also discovered that an active restraining order was in place protecting the female from Heater. She was moved to a safe location while officers continued to attempt to arrest Heater.

Deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, including K9 units, arrived to assist. Heater remained barricaded in the apartment, and officers believed a resident was inside and being prevented from leaving. The resident was contacted by phone and eventually left the apartment safely. It was later determined that Heater had no permission to be in that apartment.

A K9 Deputy made several announcements for Heater to exit the apartment. After several attempts, Heater began communicating with officers through a window. Despite negotiations, Heater refused to leave. Officers then entered the apartment and took Heater into custody without incident.

During the incident, several residents of the apartment complex were prevented from entering their apartments for safety reasons. No injuries were reported among the officers or deputies, and Heater was taken into custody uninjured. He was later transported to Jackson County Jail.

The Eagle Point Police Department expressed gratitude to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies and K9 units for their assistance in resolving the situation safely.
