Oregon Highway Crash Kills 4-Year-Old, and Injures Several Others

Clackamas County, Oregon– Oregon State Police responded to a devastating two-vehicle collision on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at approximately 2:42 p.m. The accident occurred on Hwy-211, near milepost 3, in Clackamas County.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a Ford Focus, driven by Kakkera Geethanjali, 32, of Hillsboro, was traveling southbound on S. Meridian Rd. when it failed to obey a stop sign. The Ford collided with a westbound Jeep Liberty, operated by Benjamin Hernandez-Lopez, 18, of Canby. The impact occurred as the Ford crossed Hwy-211, resulting in a collision on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

Tragically, a female juvenile passenger, aged 4, who was traveling in the Ford, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Ford, K. Geethanjali, was transported in critical condition, along with Nareshbabu Kamathman, 36, of Hillsboro, and a male juvenile, aged 8, both seriously injured and taken for medical treatment.

The operator of the Jeep, Hernandez-Lopez, and a passenger, Janie Corona-Huarta, 19, of Canby, sustained minor injuries and were also transported for medical evaluation.

The collision prompted a significant response effort, with the highway being impacted for approximately five hours during the on-scene investigation. Oregon State Police were aided by several local agencies, including the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Molalla Police Department, Molalla Fire, Monitor Fire District, and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).

At present, the cause of the crash remains under investigation as authorities work to piece together the full series of events leading up to the tragic incident.

As the investigation continues, authorities urge all motorists to remain obey traffic signals, and prioritize safety to prevent accidents in the future.
