White City, Oregon- Last night, Hector Cruz Orozco, 27, of White City, was apprehended and is now in Jackson County Jail facing several charges related to a shooting incident that unfolded on Sunday. Orozco is charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, and two counts of felon in possession of a firearm.
The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was transported to an out-of-area hospital and is currently in critical condition after sustaining injuries in the incident.
Initial findings from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) indicate that Orozco and the victim were together at a mobile home in the 3700 block of Falcon Street on Sunday evening. Exiting the residence, Orozco allegedly shot the victim at close range and fled the scene on a bicycle. JCSO deputies responded to reports of gunshots and distress calls at 29th Street and Falcon Street around 6:51 p.m. on Sunday, only to find Orozco had already left.
Following a thorough investigation, JCSO detectives tracked Orozco to a residence in the 7800 block of Laura Lane in White City the next day. With the support of SWAT, K9, and the Crisis Negotiator Team, JCSO executed a search warrant and took Orozco into custody on Monday at 5:54 p.m.
The case is currently under further investigation, and the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office will lead the prosecution. As of now, authorities say no additional information is available for release.
