Medford, Oregon- 2023 was a history-making year for Medford Alert as we reached new milestones across our platforms. We proudly produced more local, regional, and state news than ever before in our 12-year history. Medford Alert also teamed up with several organizations, and non-profits to help support local causes and Rogue Valley residents in need. Here is a brief recap of Medford Alert’s 2023.
Website Growth and Top Articles
In Medford Alert’s second full year of operating our website, we witnessed an astounding 35% growth from 2022. The website logged over 1,100,000 views for the year. We also welcomed website visitors from over 130 different countries. In 2023, Medford Alert published over 1,480 articles, equating to roughly half-a-million words in those stories. Our top three most viewed stories in 2023 were:
- Former Pier 1 Building in NE Medford Getting New Tenant
- Disturbance Leads to Attempted Murder Arrest in North Medford
- Music Lineup for 2024 Jackson County Fair Released
Our Platforms Sees Substantial Growth
Over on X (formerly Twitter) Medford Alert passed the 14,000 follower mark, cementing us as the second largest local news and media account on the platform. Furthermore, we saw over 13,500,000 impressions for 2023 as readers turned to our longest established platform for fast-breaking news and stories.
On our Facebook page, we beat our own growth estimates by nearly 3 months, as we passed 10,000 Facebook followers in December. We have continued to witness a lot of community engagement with Facebook as readers discuss the articles, with one another, in real time. Even though our Facebook page is our youngest platform, we had a massive 485% increase in reach since 2022, as we passed 928,000 impressions on Facebook.
Community Engagement and Giving Back
Medford Alert had a number of opportunities to continue our history of giving back to the community this year. As many of our readers know, no one here at Medford Alert takes a paycheck, we reinvest all extra income, after our company expenses, into our community initiatives.
In 2023, we had the honor of teaming up with the North Medford Pacific Islander Club in their 2nd Annual Fall Street Scene. We had a blast directly meeting the community we serve, while handing out pounds of candy to local kids and families. We also were proud sponsors of the 2023 South Medford High School Volleyball program. Earlier in 2023, we finalized a no-cost partnership with Jackson County Animal Services to feature a dog in need of adoption each week, in our “Dog of the Week” series. We are thrilled with the number of canines that have found new homes as a result. During the 2023 holiday season, Medford Alert teamed up with CASA of Jackson County to bring a bit of joy to local kids and teens going through some tough times. We launched our inaugural “Medford Alert Kids Toy & Clothing Drive” that concluded with over $1,300 worth of new toys and clothing donating by our community. Medford Alert matched a portion of those donations during the drive, to ensure the maximum amount of joy could be provided to local kids and teens.
Throughout the year, we also were able to team up with several local businesses and companies who allowed Medford Alert to do some fun prize giveaways for locals.
Thank You’s and a Look Into Next Year
We want to thank all the local businesses and organizations that advertised with Medford Alert throughout 2023 and also those individuals who donated directly to our news organization. Without your support, we simply could not provide the coverages we do, so a very sincere thank you!
Now more than ever, locally owned and produced news is paramount for any community. As the Medford area has recently seen a long established local newspaper and tv news station close, local breaking news and information is still going strong as Medford Alert continues to grow and invest in our community coverages.
Investing in Quality Journalism
Recognizing the importance of locally owned and produced news, Medford Alert expanded its capabilities in 2023. Thanks to ad partners and financial supporters, we acquired brand-new professional 4k camera equipment and launched a YouTube channel, providing raw coverage of local events as they unfolded.
As Medford Alert bids farewell to 2023, we extend heartfelt thanks to our readers, advertisers, and supporters. With high hopes for the local news scene in 2024, Medford Alert remains committed to delivering agenda-free coverage of news and events, strengthened by the remarkable support of our community.
