Medford Police Seize Gun From SMHS Student’s Home

Yesterday, South Medford High School (SMHS) officials said a student reported the presence of a gun in a backpack on campus, prompting an immediate response from the School Resource Officer.

Following a thorough investigation, it was determined that the student had left the campus. Local law enforcement, specifically the Medford Police Department (MPD), successfully seized the weapon at the student’s residence.

School officials say the ongoing investigation, conducted in collaboration with the MPD, ensures that comprehensive measures are taken. In light of this incident, heightened security protocols will remain in effect throughout the remainder of the week.

Authorities emphasize that weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited on South Medford High School grounds and throughout the entire district, in accordance with district policy.

SMHS Principal Jonathan Lyons remarked: “We commend the students who came forward with their concerns. Please, always encourage your students to say something if they see something suspicious.”

No additional information was released by authorities at this time.
