Earlier this morning, at approximately 8:10 am, the Eagle Point Police Department received a call from a concerned citizen reporting the loss of a Glock firearm. The incident occurred as the owner was departing from his residence on E. Archwood in Eagle Point.
According to the information provided by law enforcement officials, the owner of the firearm had inadvertently left his gun on the bumper of his truck as he drove away from his residence. Realizing his mistake, he promptly returned to the area within minutes and successfully retrieved his cell phone but found the firearm, which was stored in a black bag, missing. Despite retracing his route, he was unable to locate the case or the firearm.
Given the proximity to local schools and the time when students typically head to their classes, the Eagle Point School District was notified as a precautionary measure. Both Middle School and High School staff were made aware of the situation, and parents were also promptly informed.
It’s important to note that there is currently no indication that the missing firearm was picked up by a student, and there is no evidence to suggest the weapon is present at any of the schools. The notifications were primarily issued as a precaution to ensure staff is alert for any mention of firearms or any signs that the weapon may have been found.
Efforts to locate the lost firearm have been comprehensive. Officers and members of the school district have conducted a thorough search of the area on foot, along with the owner of the firearm and a friend. Additionally, video footage from the vicinity is being reviewed in hopes of identifying any potential individuals who may have retrieved the weapon.
The Eagle Point Police Department is actively seeking the public’s assistance in resolving this incident. If anyone has information related to the lost firearm or its whereabouts, they are urged to contact the Eagle Point Police Department at 541-826-9171.
