Controlled Burning Today in the Bull Gap Recreation Area Near Ashland

On Friday, November 3rd, the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest is actively managing a controlled burn in the Bull Gap recreation area on behalf of the Ashland Forest Resiliency project. This carefully planned operation aims to reduce wildfire risk and enhance forest health in the region.

The controlled burn is expected to produce some localized smoke, primarily impacting the USFS 2080 Road and certain sections of the upper Bull Gap Trail. However, it is important to note that the high elevation burn is not anticipated to drift into the city of Ashland. Residents and visitors need not be concerned about any adverse effects on air quality.

The visibility of smoke during the burn may vary, depending on weather conditions and the rate of clearing. Therefore, it is possible that residents and passersby may witness the controlled burn from a distance.

The Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, in collaboration with the Ashland Forest Resiliency project, remains committed to ensuring the safety of the community while proactively managing the forest ecosystem. This controlled burn is a strategic step in reducing the potential for more devastating wildfires and enhancing the overall resilience of the forest.
