Suspects Vehicle Goes Airborne During High-Speed Police Chase

Seaside Police received an emergency 911 call at 12:20 a.m. on Friday, reporting an assault and vehicle theft at the 100 block of Ninth Ave in Seaside. The incident led to a high-speed pursuit and a manhunt as law enforcement agencies joined forces to track down the suspect.

As officers rushed to the scene, a Cannon Beach officer spotted the stolen vehicle south of Seaside. When the driver refused to stop, an initial pursuit began but was discontinued after the officer lost sight of the speeding vehicle on eastbound Highway 26.

The pursuit resumed when a Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputy reestablished sight of the vehicle near the intersection of Highway 47. The suspect’s vehicle was clocked at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour as it entered the county. However, the chase took a dangerous turn when the suspect’s vehicle turned southbound onto NW Glencoe Road, ultimately crashing and becoming briefly airborne at the intersection with NE Shannon St. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

With the situation escalating, officers from the Beaverton Police Department, Hillsboro Police Department, and Tigard Police Department joined Washington County in their efforts. Three dog teams and two drone teams were deployed to aid in the search for the fleeing suspect. As of now, the suspect remains at large.

The victim of the initial assault and vehicle theft was rushed to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria, where they remain in critical condition. The victim’s stolen vehicle has been seized and towed to an evidence bay for further investigation.

At this time, the suspect remains unidentified, and authorities are seeking the public’s help. If you have any information related to this incident, please contact Seaside Detective Michael Crowe at (503) 738-6311.
