Freeze Watch Issued for Greater Rogue Valley Area

Freeze Watch in Effect for areas of Northern California and Southern Oregon

A Freeze Watch is in effect for late Thursday night through Friday morning, bringing sub-freezing temperatures as low as 20 degrees in various areas. Here’s what you need to know:

  • What: Expect temperatures dropping to as low as 20 degrees.
  • Where: In California, this watch covers the valleys of Siskiyou County, including Scott Valley. In Oregon, it extends to the valleys of Central Douglas County, Josephine County, the Scott Valley, and Jackson County, including Medford, Cave Junction, Applegate, Shady Cove, and Selma.
  • When: This Freeze Watch will be in effect from late Thursday night through Friday morning.
  • Impacts: Frost and freezing conditions could harm crops, sensitive vegetation, and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
  • Additional Details: There’s a 60-80% probability for most of Jackson County to experience freezing temperatures on Thursday night.

Please take precautionary measures to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and potential bursting of outdoor water pipes, consider wrapping, draining, or allowing them to drip slowly. For those with in-ground sprinkler systems, it’s advisable to drain them and cover above-ground pipes to shield them from freezing. Stay prepared for the cold snap.
