Man Dies After Raft Capsizes on Rogue River Near Gold Hill

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) and fire personnel were summoned to respond to a water rescue call at approximately 3:30 p.m. yesterday. The incident unfolded in the vicinity of Ti’lomikh Falls on the Rogue River.

The call for help came through the Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon (ECSO) dispatch, triggered by a incident involving a local guiding company’s raft. It was reported that the raft had capsized in the rapids, leading to a medical emergency involving a 69-year-old man. Bystanders displayed remarkable courage, initiating CPR on the victim until the arrival of first responders.

Personnel from Jackson County Fire District 3 and Mercy Flights responding to the scene, and assumed control of the life-saving efforts. Further assistance was provided by a rescue boat from Jackson County Fire District 1, which transported the patient to meet an awaiting ambulance.

The ambulance transported the injured man to a nearby Medford hospital. Despite the efforts of all involved, the 69-year-old man was pronounced deceased at 4:50 p.m.

Out of respect for the grieving family’s privacy, authorities have opted not to disclose the name of the deceased at this moment. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) has launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident to shed light on the circumstances surrounding this tragedy. As of now, no further details are available for release.
