Excessive Heat Watch Issued for Greater Rogue Valley Area

EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH THURSDAY AFTERNOON

  • WHAT…Potential for high heat risk across the region. High temperatures reaching up to 107 degrees and overnight lows as warm as 72 degrees. Multiple days of heat increases the heat risk.
  • WHERE…Central Douglas County, Eastern Curry County, Josephine County and Jackson County. Warmest temperatures will be in the valleys, specifically the Rogue and Illinois.
  • WHEN…From Sunday afternoon through Thursday afternoon.
  • IMPACTS…Hazardous heat will increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those without air conditioning, or those working or participating in outdoor activities without adequate hydration.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS…The high temperatures will challenge high temperature records. The probability of 110 degrees in Medford is about 35% Monday and Tuesday.
  • PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation. Be prepared to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air- conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
