Medford City Manager Brian Sjothun has taken proactive steps to ensure the safety and well-being of residents as high temperatures loom on the horizon. A severe weather event declaration has been issued, effective from Sunday, August 13, to Tuesday, August 15.
In collaboration with ACCESS, the City of Medford is set to provide relief from the scorching heat to needy individuals. A cooling shelter will be operational during the specified dates, from 12 PM to 8 PM, located at the former Kelly Shelter on 324 West 6th Street.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the cooling shelter will offer a range of amenities to offer comfort and respite. These include water, restroom facilities, snacks, and a designated cooling area. For those with pets, the shelter will also have provisions for water and cooling.
Medford residents are encouraged to take advantage of the cooling shelter as needed, with the flexibility to come and go as they require. The City’s paramount concern is the well-being of its citizens during these challenging weather conditions.
Furthermore, ACCESS, the partner organization operating the cooling shelter, extends an invitation to community members willing to lend a helping hand. Volunteers are always welcome, and those interested in contributing their time or resources can reach out via email to volunteer@accesshelps.org.
