Weather Helping Firefighters In Efforts to Contain Flat Fire

Firefighters made progress in controlling the wildfire today, thanks to cooler temperatures and higher humidity levels. These favorable conditions allowed them to continue tactical firing operations along the western and southwestern flanks, effectively strengthening control lines.

The recent narrow fire growth towards the southwest, now visible on the map, can be attributed to successful ignitions that took place over the past few days. To establish more depth along the control lines, Unstaffed Aerial Systems (UAS) were deployed in the afternoon to ignite vegetation in interior areas.

Crews also worked to patrol recently burned sections and extinguish any remaining sources of heat along the fire’s edge. Additionally, a special medical team has arrived at the fire camp, ready to provide rapid care to firefighters who may experience symptoms of poison oak.

For the upcoming night, firing operations may continue along the southwestern flank if conditions remain favorable. Night shift crews will continue the patrols of all previously burned areas, ensuring any lingering heat sources are addressed.

As for evacuations, a Level 2 “Get Set” evacuation notice remains in effect from Agness to Quosatana Creek, as well as for the areas of Oak Flat, Old House Creek Road, and Spud Road.

The wildfire response effort currently involves a total of 1,528 personnel. The fire has consumed an area of 22,130 acres within the national forest, however contamination has reached 3%. In response to the ongoing fire threat, the Rogue River Siskiyou National Forest has issued a closure order, affecting trails, roads, and a portion of the Illinois River. Among the locations closed as part of the area closure are Oak Flat Campground, Game Lake Campground, Wild Horse Campground, and Snow Camp Lookout Recreation Rentals.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, and firefighters remain actively engaging to bring the wildfire under control to help ensure the safety of both the forest and nearby communities.
