Firefighters Extinguish I5 Wildfire at Oregon California Border

A semi-truck fire broke out around 2:13p today on the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 at the Oregon/California border, causing disruption in the area. The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) and several partner fire agencies swiftly responded to the scene, where they encountered a fully involved truck and trailer.

The fire has extended to the adjacent wildland, raising concerns about the potential continued spread and endangerment to the surrounding area. To combat the wildfire portion, ODF has deployed their Medford area Helicopter, providing aerial assistance.

The incident has resulted in traffic congestion near the border, affecting northbound commuters.

In response to the vehicle fire, CalFire is working alongside ODF and partner agencies to combat the wildfire aspect, providing a comprehensive and coordinated effort to help contain the situation.

Medford Alert is actively monitoring the incident and will continue to provide updates as they become available. No evacuation orders have been issued at this time, indicating that residents are not currently at immediate risk.

Authorities are working to bring the situation under control and minimize the impact on the surrounding area. Further updates will be provided as the situation evolves.


3:30P UPDATE: ODF reports the majority of the fire has been knocked down as a number of fire crews will remain on scene for mop-up duties throughout the evening. The fire was last estimated to have burned approximately 3 acres.

Cal Fire reports that all aircraft have been released. One firefighter injury was reported by authorities. They were transported to an area hospital for further evaluation. No additional information was released by officials at this time.
