Plane Crash Reported Near Ashland Airport

At approximately 4:52p today, ECSO 911 operators started to receive several calls regarding a possible airplane crash near the Ashland Airport.

Multiple Ashland Fire (AFR), Jackson County Fire District 5 (JCFD5), Ashland Police (APD), and other metro emergency crews responded to the area.

Upon arrival, police confirmed that a small plane had crashed near the airport in an industrial area and the plane was fully engulfed along Neil Creek. The fire was speeding to nearby trees.

Emergency radio traffic confirmed that the pilot and one passenger were out of the downed aircraft and no rescue was needed. This is believed to have been a training flight in a Daher TBM-940 plane. Both individuals involved declined medical treatment at the scene.

The fire was extinguished in approximately 10 minutes. A nearby muffler shop was evacuated as a precaution. There is no current threat to surrounding structures or vegetation at this time. The state Fire Marshal’s Office is heading to the scene to investigate.
