No Injuries in Northside House Fire Despite Lack of Working Smoke Alarms

Yesterday night, at approximately 8:28p, multiple Medford Fire Department (MFD) units were dispatched to a reported structure fire. Jackson County Fire District 3 (JCFD3) also sent crews to assist. The fire was reported to be inside a residential structure on the 2300 block of Corona Ave, just east of the Poplar Square area.

Upon arrival the fire was quickly contained to the kitchen area, where it started. Residents were alerted to the fire after hearing a loud noise in the kitchen and discovered the fire. Everyone was able to exit the residence safely and there were no reported injuries.

The fire is believed to have been caused by improper disposal of hot materials (smoking) in a trash can.

MFD officials said the home had a single smoke alarm that was beyond ten years old and non-functioning. Before leaving, firefighters installed new working fire alarms in the house.

Medford Fire officials want to remind the public to check the functionality of smoke alarms and ensure they are in working conditions. It may save you or a loved ones life.
