At approximately 2:45p today, several Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) fire units were dispatched to a reported new fire start near Butte Falls.

Multiple residents from the city of Butte Falls reported seeing heavy smoke coming from just east of town. The ODF Wildfire Detection Network confirmed a column of smoke was visible.
Crews were attempting to access the fire, but were encountering large boulders in their path. At least one 4×4 ODF unit was working its way around the obstruction at 2:55p
There are no current evacuations in place as crews continue to try and get closer to the incident.
3p UPDATE: First unit has made its way to the fire. Approx size of the fire is 1/4 acre fire. All incoming units still requested to the scene.
3:10p UPDATE: An additional water tender from the US Forest Service is heading to the scene. Incident command says the fire is moving slowly, crews on scene getting good knock down of fire. Still active fire however.
3:53p UPDATE: Crews working fire perimeter and are fully engaged. However, fire has been knocked down.


4:40p UPDATE: ODF confirms the fire spread has been stopped and there is no current threat to surrounding structures or vegetation. Authorities say the fire was halted at 1/4 acre. The incident remains under investigation.
