Newly Named Oakdale Middle School Finds Its Leader

Medford School District officials announced the selection of the principal for the districts newest middle school, Oakdale Middle School.

Karina Chavez Rizo will be joining MSD549C from the Eagle Point School District where she was the principal of White Mountain Middle School. Mrs. Rizo has nine years principal experience at White Mountain and prior to that was a teacher at Jackson Elementary in Medford.

She is bilingual and resides with her husband and three children (who attend MSD schools) here in Medford.

Oakdale Middle School will open in August 2023. Hiring Mrs. Rizo now, allows her time to provide feedback on facility development, begin staff recruitment, and connect with future families, officials remarked.

“We are excited for Mrs. Rizo to rejoin the MSD family and look forward to introducing you to her soon,” announced MSD Superintendent Bret Champion.

The Attendance Zoning Committee is currently working on proposed boundary adjustments and the public will have an opportunity to weigh in before the Medford School Board makes a decision in May or June.

Oakdale will be the districts third middle school. Currently, only 7th and 8th graders attend middle school within the MSD boundary. Once Oakdale opens, 6th graders will be moved into the three middle schools, which will grant the district much needed space in a number of elementary schools.
