RV Fire Temporarily Shuts Down Highway 140 in Klamath County

Klamath Falls, Oregon- A substantial RV fire forced the closure of Highway 140 east at mile post 12 in Klamath County for several hours today. The emergency response was a collaborative effort between Klamath County Fire District 1, Bonanza Fire Department, and Kingsley Field Fire Department.

The fire occurred approximately 10 miles east of Klamath Falls, as the RV, en route to Klamath Falls, experienced a sudden outbreak of smoke and flames emanating from the back tire area. The quick-thinking driver promptly pulled over, attempting to control the situation, but unfortunately, the fire proved too much.

Authorities estimate the fire loss to exceed $250,000, marking a substantial setback for the owner. Despite the intensity of the blaze, there were no reported injuries, a testament to the response and effective collaboration of the firefighting teams.

The incident is now under investigation to determine the root cause of the fire. As the affected stretch of Highway 140 east remains closed for the ongoing investigation and cleanup, motorists are advised to seek alternative routes and exercise caution in the vicinity.

Updates on the investigation will be provided as they become available.
