JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. (Sep. 14, 2026) — Two men died following separate crashes in Josephine County on Sept. 11 and Sept. 12, according to the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office.
The first crash occurred around 8:18 p.m. Sept. 11 near the 2600 block of Merlin Road.
Deputies responded to a vehicle-pedestrian crash involving a Geo Metro traveling east on Merlin Road. The vehicle struck a male pedestrian, and the driver remained at the scene.
The pedestrian, identified as 88-year-old Scott Starke, was transported to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The investigation remains active. The sheriff’s office said charges will be referred to the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office pending the results of evidence collected during the investigation.
The second fatal crash occurred around 12:15 p.m. Sept. 12 on Monument Drive near Mary Harris Way.
Deputies, American Medical Response personnel and fire crews responded to a report of an ATV crash. Responders found 58-year-old Barry Fell with serious injuries after he crashed the ATV.
Fell was transported by AMR to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The sheriff’s office said next of kin for both men have been notified.
No further information was released in either case.
The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office expressed its condolences to the families and friends of both Starke and Fell.
