EUGENE, Ore. (Sep. 14, 2026) — A Eugene man was arrested over the weekend after police said he stole a Tesla, drove it to a stranger’s home and attempted to enter the residence, where he planned to drink a beer and take a shower.
Eugene police were dispatched at about 12:15 p.m. Sept. 12 to a report of a stolen vehicle. The Tesla’s owner was able to track the vehicle using the Tesla mobile app to an address on Waite Street.
Officers arrived at the residence and found the Tesla with its rear window smashed. Police also found Kip Allen Carr, 48, standing a few feet from the vehicle.
According to police, various belongings were scattered around the Tesla, and Carr was wearing a jacket belonging to the vehicle’s owner.
Police said Carr eventually admitted to stealing the Tesla and attempting to open the front door of the residence. The door was locked, preventing him from entering the home.
Carr was arrested and lodged in the Lane County Jail on charges of first-degree burglary of a residence, third-degree theft from a vehicle, unauthorized use of a vehicle and first-degree criminal mischief.
The residence was not entered, and the Tesla was recovered by its owner.
All suspects are believed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
