WHITE CITY, Ore. (Aug. 1, 2026) — Multiple fire agencies responded Saturday evening to a reported structure fire at the Schnitzer Steel facility in White City, prompting a third-alarm response and the activation of a countywide “Significant Event” protocol to bring additional resources to the scene.
At approximately 5:40 p.m., units from Jackson County Fire District 3 and the Medford Fire Department were dispatched to 2645 Avenue G for reports of a structure fire. Heavy, dark smoke from the incident has been visible throughout the Rogue Valley as firefighters continue operations.
The fire has since been upgraded to a third alarm, bringing additional personnel and equipment from agencies across Jackson County to assist with suppression efforts.
The address is home to Schnitzer Steel, also known as Radius Recycling.
Officials have closed 18th Street and Avenue G in the surrounding area due to the emergency response. Residents and motorists are being asked to avoid the area if possible.
No information has been released regarding injuries, the extent of damage, or the cause of the fire.
