GRANTS PASS, Ore. (Jul. 5, 2026) — Firefighters responded to two separate fires early Saturday morning that were both caused by fireworks, with crews quickly containing each incident before they could spread.
The first fire was reported at approximately 12:45 a.m. in the southeast part of Grants Pass, where fireworks ignited a grass fire. Flames spread to a tree and nearby blackberry bushes, eventually impinging on overhead power lines. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire, established containment lines and completed mop-up operations within about 20 minutes of the first engine arriving on scene.
Just before 2 a.m., crews were dispatched to a reported vehicle fire in the southwest part of the city. Firefighters arrived to find the bed of a pickup truck burning in the driveway of a residence. The fire was brought under control quickly, and the scene was turned back over to the property owner within approximately 20 minutes.
No injuries were reported in either incident.
Fire officials said both fires were determined to have been caused by fireworks and are reminding residents that fireworks remain a leading cause of preventable fires during holiday celebrations.
Officials encourage anyone using legal fireworks in the future to keep a bucket of water nearby for spent fireworks, have a charged garden hose readily available and maintain a safe distance from vegetation, vehicles and people.
The two incidents served as a reminder of how quickly fireworks can ignite fires, even when celebrations are winding down.
