


YREKA, Calif. (Jun. 6, 2026) — A routine traffic stop in Siskiyou County resulted in the seizure of approximately $1.9 million worth of suspected cocaine and the arrest of a driver on multiple felony charges, authorities said.
According to the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on May 29 at approximately 11:50 a.m. after observing a 2022 Mazda CX-5 with a mechanical violation.
During the stop, the driver was found to be unlicensed and exhibited several indicators of criminal activity, deputies said. An inventory search of the vehicle was conducted, during which the deputy discovered signs of an aftermarket false compartment.
The Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from a drug-detection K-9 unit. Officers from the Mount Shasta Police Department responded with a narcotics detection dog, which alerted to the presence of illegal drugs within the vehicle.
After receiving the positive alert, deputies breached the concealed compartment and located 18 kilograms of suspected cocaine.
Authorities estimated the street value of the seized narcotics at approximately $1.9 million.
The driver was arrested and booked into the Siskiyou County Jail on numerous felony charges. The suspect’s name and specific charges were not immediately released.
The investigation remains ongoing.
