WELCHES, Ore. (Apr. 13, 2026) — A man was shot and killed Sunday evening following a pursuit involving the Oregon State Police and the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, authorities said.
According to officials, the incident began around 6:55 p.m. when a state trooper contacted an impaired motorist at the intersection of Highway 26 and East Brightwood Loop Road. The driver fled in a vehicle, prompting a pursuit eastbound involving both agencies.
The chase ended near the Barlow Trail Roadhouse, where authorities said the encounter escalated into what was described as a “deadly use of force.” The suspect was struck by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene.
No law enforcement officers or members of the public were injured during the incident.
The investigation is being conducted by the Clackamas County Major Crimes Team in coordination with the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office, in accordance with standard protocol for officer-involved shootings.
Officials said additional information will be released at a later time.
