Attempted Bend Break-In Ends With Suspect Dead, Resident Injured

BEND, Ore. (Mar. 15, 2026) — A late-night attempted burglary in a Bend neighborhood ended with the death of a suspected intruder after a struggle with a homeowner, police said.

According to the Bend Police Department, officers responded around 11:45 p.m. March 12 to the 3500 block of Northwest Braid Drive after a resident reported that an unknown person had attempted to break into their home while they were inside.

Police said the resident confronted the intruder, and a struggle occurred inside or near the home. During the confrontation, the suspect fled the scene on foot.

The resident sustained injuries during the altercation and was transported by Bend Fire & Rescue to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Officers conducted an area search and later located the suspected intruder on a nearby golf course suffering from life-threatening injuries, police said. Emergency medical care was provided at the scene, but the individual did not survive.

Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased pending notification of next of kin.

Detectives with the Bend Police Department are leading the investigation into the incident. Police have not yet released additional details about how the suspect was injured during the encounter.

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
