JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. (Feb. 2, 2026) — Authorities are searching for a man accused of threatening a customer with a knife during a robbery at a rural market in Josephine County on Sunday afternoon.
Deputies with the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office and troopers from the Oregon State Police responded at about 2:05 p.m. to the A-1 Market at 4203 Upper River Road after receiving a report of a robbery. Investigators said an unknown man entered the store and grabbed several items from the shelves without paying.
The suspect had reportedly been in the store about an hour earlier without money. When a store clerk attempted to stop him from leaving, the man displayed a knife and held it toward another customer inside the store, authorities said. The employee, fearing for their life, opened the door, allowing the suspect to flee.
No injuries were reported. The suspect was last seen running along Upper River Road. A search of the area was conducted, but deputies were unable to locate him.
The suspect is described as a white man between 40 and 50 years old with gray hair, last seen wearing a red hat, blue sweatshirt and blue jeans. He is wanted on charges of first-degree robbery, third-degree theft, unlawful use of a weapon and menacing.
