GRANTS PASS, Ore. (Feb. 2, 2026) — A 15-year-old boy was taken into custody Saturday afternoon following an overnight investigation into a reported gunshot in a Grants Pass neighborhood, police said.
Officers with the Grants Pass Police Department responded around 11:42 p.m. Friday to the 500 block of Southeast J Street after receiving a report of a gunshot. Police confirmed a firearm had been discharged and conducted a safety search of the surrounding area, determining that no one was injured.
Detectives assisted with evidence collection and interviews, and officers spent the next 11 hours on what police described as a manpower-intensive investigation. At about 1:22 p.m. Saturday, the juvenile suspect was taken into custody and lodged at the Josephine County Juvenile Justice Center.
The teen faces charges of unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm and reckless endangering. Because the suspect is a juvenile, authorities did not release his name.
Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Grants Pass Police Major Crimes Unit at 541-450-6260.
