BEND, Ore. (Jan. 31, 2026) — A Bend man was arrested Saturday afternoon after police say he rode a motorcycle recklessly through an intersection where a protest was taking place and later resisted arrest.
Bend police responded around 3:51 p.m. to the area of Northwest Wall Street and Newport Avenue, where demonstrators were gathered on all four corners of the intersection. Officers said a motorcyclist was riding in circles through the intersection, blocking traffic and placing protesters at risk.
Police attempted to stop the motorcycle away from the crowd, but the rider fled eastbound on Franklin Avenue at high speeds. Officers did not pursue the motorcycle through the busy area, citing department policy.
Minutes later, police said the motorcyclist returned to the protest area and again began riding through the intersection. Officers staged nearby and stopped the motorcycle when it became stuck in traffic on Wall Street.
The rider was identified as Kurt Patrick Greenwood, 34, of Bend. Police said Greenwood refused to get off the motorcycle and initially resisted arrest before being subdued without further force. He was not injured and was transported to the Deschutes County Jail.
Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, eluding a police officer and resisting arrest. He was also cited for failure to obey a traffic control device, driving without insurance and improper display of validating stickers. His motorcycle was impounded because he lacked insurance.
Wall Street was briefly blocked during the stop and arrest, police said.
