Holiday Traffic Safety Effort Yields 12 DUII Arrests Across Deschutes County

BEND, Ore. (Jan. 16, 2025) — A holiday impaired-driving enforcement effort across Deschutes County resulted in 56 traffic stops and 12 DUII arrests, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.

The agency concluded its participation in the statewide Drive Sober, Get Pulled Over campaign, which ran from Dec. 10 through Jan. 1 and focused on keeping impaired drivers off the roads during the busy holiday travel period.

Deputies worked four six-hour enforcement shifts, resulting in 56 traffic stops, 11 citations, 50 warnings, one warrant arrest and one DUII arrest during the detail itself. In total, the sheriff’s office made 12 DUII arrests agency-wide during the campaign period.

While preventing impaired driving remains the primary goal, the campaign also allowed deputies to engage with community members and reinforce safe driving practices, officials said.

“We want our roads to be safe for everyone—not just during the holidays, but all year long,” Sheriff Ty Rupert said. “Driving sober saves lives, and we appreciate the community’s support in making safety a priority.”

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office continues to urge drivers to plan ahead, use designated drivers or rideshare services, and avoid driving while impaired. Officials emphasized that getting behind the wheel under the influence puts both drivers and others at serious risk.
