Fog and High Winds Hamper Sixth Day of Search for Missing Oregon Hunter

ESTACADA, Ore. (Nov. 5, 2025) — The search for missing hunter Devon Dobek entered its sixth day Wednesday as dozens of rescuers continued combing rugged terrain in the Mount Hood National Forest, southeast of Estacada, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.

Dobek, who has been missing since Friday, Oct. 31, was last known to be on a solo hunting trip and failed to return home that evening. Despite extensive efforts by ground crews, drones, and aircraft, there has been no confirmed sign of his whereabouts.

Approximately 70 searchers from multiple agencies joined Wednesday’s operation, including teams from Mountain Wave Emergency Communications, Portland Mountain Rescue, Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue, Hood River Crag Rats, and the 304th Rescue Squadron. Additional support came from Mary’s Peak Search and Rescue, and sheriff’s offices from Deschutes, Marion, Multnomah, and Polk counties, as well as the U.S. Forest Service, officials said.

Sheriff’s Office drones were again deployed to scan remote terrain using thermal imaging cameras, though operations were hindered by heavy fog that limited visibility. Investigators also used advanced cell phone data analysis to refine search areas, focusing on new sectors identified through the latest information.

Ground crews faced difficult conditions Wednesday, with high winds and falling trees creating safety hazards across parts of the search zone.

“We want to offer our sincere thanks to the many volunteers and partner agencies who have been part of this search effort and continue to donate their time and energy to keep this mission going,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The search intensified earlier in the week, with about 40 searchers and an Oregon Army National Guard helicopter assisting on Tuesday. Detectives have been reviewing cell tower data, but no new signals from Dobek’s phone have been detected since Oct. 30, officials said.

The Sheriff’s Office released new drone footage of the ongoing search, which can be viewed here. Additional updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
