Suspect Killed in Central Medford Apartment Shooting After Alleged Break-In

Medford, Oregon- Medford Police are investigating a fatal shooting early Sunday morning after a reported forced entry into an apartment on Hawthorne Street.

According to police, officers responded to a report of a shooting at 18 Hawthorne Street at approximately 3:35 a.m. Sunday. Preliminary information indicates that a male suspect forced his way into an apartment and became involved in a physical altercation with the resident.

Police said a neighbor, hearing the struggle, entered the apartment to help the resident. During the confrontation, the neighbor shot the suspect, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The shooter was detained and is cooperating with investigators, according to Medford Police. Detectives responded and have assumed control of the investigation.

Authorities said the investigation remains active and that there is no ongoing threat to the community. Additional details will be released as they become available, police said.
