Portland Woman Charged With Assaulting Four Federal Officers

Portland, Oregon- A Portland woman appeared in federal court Friday after being charged with assaulting multiple federal officers during an incident involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel earlier this week, authorities said.

According to court documents, on Oct. 23, ICE deportation officers had made a lawful arrest when a bystander interfered as they escorted the individual back to their vehicle. The woman allegedly placed her hands on officers several times to impede their movement, struck one officer in the face, and knocked another’s sunglasses to the ground.

Prosecutors said she also pulled the face mask of a third officer with enough force to pull him backward and later swung at a fourth officer, striking him in the jaw. Officers then placed her under arrest.

The woman made her first appearance in federal court before a U.S. magistrate judge and was released pending further proceedings.

Homeland Security Investigations is leading the investigation, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon is prosecuting the case.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation, and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
