Medford, Oregon- Radar showed light precipitation spreading into Douglas County and the southern Oregon coast early Monday as the first in a series of storm fronts reached the region.

Forecasters said the front was expected to move onshore west of the Cascades through the morning, bringing widespread rain along the coast, coastal mountains and Cascades.

Ahead of the front, moderate to strong south winds developed in the Shasta Valley, where a wind advisory remained in effect. Winds were expected to shift west and ease by late afternoon. Additional wind advisories were in place for portions of the east side, with gusty conditions forecast to persist into the evening.

East of the Cascades, showers will increase later Monday afternoon, especially in Modoc and Lake counties, though rainfall totals there are expected to be lighter than areas west of the mountains.

A short break is forecast tonight into Tuesday morning before another front arrives late Tuesday into Tuesday night. National Weather Service meteorologists said this system is likely to weaken significantly as it moves inland but may still deliver gusty southerly winds along the coast and through the Shasta Valley.

Showers are expected Wednesday as the trough shifts inland, with activity mainly from the coast to the Cascades. Rainfall totals through midweek could reach 1 to 3 inches at the coast, a quarter to an inch west of the Cascades, and up to a quarter-inch east of the mountains.

By Thursday, clouds and cool conditions will linger, but showers should become light and scattered. Forecasters expect drier weather and a modest warming trend beginning Friday, with a weak shortwave system Saturday and a potential rex block pattern setting up early next week.
