Near Shady Cove, Oregon- Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a Shady Cove man accused of committing a string of burglaries targeting local businesses, authorities said.
Deputies took Justin David Teixeira, 38, into custody at 12:02 p.m. Sunday after serving a search warrant at his residence, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators say Teixeira is responsible for 18 burglaries involving three businesses in the Shady Cove area dating back to April.
Teixeira faces 18 counts of second-degree burglary, 18 counts of second-degree criminal trespass, third-degree theft, first-degree criminal mischief, and possession of a burglary tool or theft device.
The sheriff’s office said Teixeira was lodged in the Jackson County Jail for several hours before being released under guidelines established by Oregon Senate Bill 48. The bail reform law, passed in 2021 and enacted in 2022, requires automatic pretrial release for most nonviolent charges, while defendants accused of violent crimes or other serious offenses may still be held.
Deputies said the investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released.
All suspects are believed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
