Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Medford Metro as 110 Degree Temps Forecasted

Medford, Oregon- Authorities have issued an Extreme Heat Warning covering Medford, Grants Pass, Ashland, and parts of Jackson, Josephine, and eastern Curry counties. The warning is in effect until 4pm, Wednesday, as dangerously hot conditions are forecast to grip the region.

Meteorologists are warning of daytime temperatures soaring between 100 and nearly 110 degrees, with overnight lows expected to stay in the warm range of 65 to 70 degrees, offering little relief.

Local officials emphasize that heat-related illnesses will increase significantly during this period. They urge residents to stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay informed, and warn against leaving children or pets in unattended vehicles, which can reach deadly temperatures in minutes.

The warning extends to communities including Merlin, Jacksonville, Talent, White City, Rogue River, Cave Junction, Williams, Ruch, and Gold Hill.

This extreme heat arrives amid other high-impact weather alerts currently in place. A Red Flag Warning is active for Saturday, August 9, running from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., due to gusty winds and critically low humidity—conditions that raise wildfire risks. A Fire Weather Watch is also in effect Saturday afternoon into the evening, signaling the potential for similar hazardous conditions.

The cities of Ashland and Medford will have cooling shelters open Sunday – Tuesday, according to authorities.
