Medford, Oregon- Avelo Airlines will end all West Coast operations by December 2, 2025, including service at Rogue Valley International–Medford Airport (MFR), as the ultra-low-cost carrier shifts its focus to East Coast markets.
The move ends Avelo’s nonstop flights between Medford and Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR), a route it has operated since 2021. The airline is also withdrawing from other Western airports including Eugene, Redmond, Santa Rosa, and its West Coast base in Burbank.
The decision comes amid broader financial restructuring. Avelo has faced challenges maintaining profitability in Western markets, particularly at smaller regional airports. The airline plans to consolidate its fleet and staff at East Coast hubs, where demand is stronger and competition is less intense.
Although Medford will lose direct service to Burbank, travelers will still have access to Southern California through other nonstop routes. Alaska Airlines and other carriers continue to offer direct flights from MFR to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), John Wayne Airport in Orange County (SNA), and San Diego International Airport (SAN).
Most of Avelo’s West Coast operations will phase out by mid-August, with complete withdrawal scheduled by early December. The airline has said it will notify affected passengers and provide rebooking or refund options.
Avelo launched in 2021 with a focus on low-cost, point-to-point routes between underserved cities. Its exit from the West Coast marks a significant retreat from its original strategy and leaves several regional airports without the added capacity Avelo provided.
At MFR, airport officials have not announced plans to replace the Burbank route. However, the airport remains served by multiple carriers connecting Southern Oregon to major West Coast and national destinations.
