Lakeview, Oregon- A Lakeview man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 140 near the Oregon-Nevada border, according to Oregon State Police.
Troopers responded to the crash at approximately 3:49 p.m. on July 1, near milepost 1 in Lake County. Preliminary investigation revealed that a white Mercedes Sprinter van, driven by 48-year-old Daniel Klinkert of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was traveling eastbound on the highway when it entered an intersection and crossed paths with a southbound commercial motor vehicle pulling double trailers.
The southbound truck, a red Kenworth operated by 61-year-old Nicholas Cardoza of Lakeview, swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision. The vehicle left the roadway and rolled over.
Cardoza was pronounced dead at the scene. Klinkert was uninjured.
Highway 140 was affected for approximately six hours during the on-scene investigation.
The crash remains under investigation. Oregon State Police were assisted by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Lakeview EMS, Lakeview Fire Department, and Thomas Creek-Westside Fire Department.
