Bend, Oregon- A 36-year-old Bend man was arrested Friday afternoon after allegedly threatening to carry out a mass shooting following a dispute with family members, authorities said.
At around 12:53 p.m. on May 30, Bend Police responded to a report that Nathaniel Benjamin Wright had told a relative he was planning a mass shooting. Wright, who was known to own multiple firearms, had reportedly made the threat after an argument with family members.
Officers arrived at Wright’s residence in the 3000 block of NE Waller Avenue and located his white truck parked in the driveway. Police deployed a drone and maintained surveillance as Wright exited the home carrying an AR-15-style rifle, a duffel bag, and wearing a ballistic vest. He then removed the vest, placed it in the truck, and got into the vehicle to leave.
Before he could drive away, officers stopped Wright at gunpoint in the driveway. He complied with commands and was taken into custody without incident. Wright was later transported to St. Charles Bend.
Police searched both the vehicle and the home and obtained an Extreme Risk Protection Order against Wright. The court order temporarily bars individuals deemed a threat to themselves or others from possessing or obtaining firearms.
Wright was arrested on charges of second-degree disorderly conduct and unlawful use or carry of a weapon.
No injuries were reported.
All suspects are believed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
