Phoenix, Oregon- For this installment of our Dog-of-the-Week, we are featuring two deserving pups in need of loving homes. Trooper, a four-year-old Labrador Retriever mix, and Ivy, a nine-month-old German Shepherd, are each looking for the right adopter to help them thrive.

Trooper is a striking Labrador mix with a playful spirit and a gentle temperament. Described by shelter staff as goofy, friendly, and loyal, Trooper already knows basic commands like “sit” and is eager to continue his training. With medium energy, he enjoys playtime and walks but doesn’t require constant activity. His favorite pastime? Chasing tennis balls in the yard and cuddling once he’s tuckered out.
Despite his loving nature, Trooper has a few quirks. He’s not fond of having his ears or feet touched — ironic, as he sports eye-catching brown markings on his paws that resemble boots. He’s also not suitable for homes with livestock, but his social skills with humans and other dogs have blossomed during his shelter stay. Trooper arrived as a stray suffering from an ear infection, which has since fully healed. After more than 100 days in care, his adoption fee has been waived, though licensing fees still apply.

Joining him in the spotlight is Ivy, a beautiful and intelligent young German Shepherd who came to the shelter with her sister, Inky, under-socialized and fearful. Now, Ivy has made remarkable progress and is beginning to show her true personality — a curious, playful pup who enjoys romping in the play yard and lounging by the pool.
At just nine months old, Ivy needs a dedicated and experienced dog owner who understands the breed’s needs. A calm, structured home environment with continued positive training will help Ivy gain confidence and trust. Her ideal adopter will be patient and consistent, offering the stability she needs to thrive.
Both dogs are currently available at the Jackson County Animal Shelter. For those looking to provide a second chance to a dog in need, Trooper and Ivy offer loyalty, love, and a lifetime of companionship.
Adoption means embarking on a shared adventure filled with learning, unforgettable experiences, and the warm companionship of these lively dogs. The shelter encourages individuals interested in meeting and potentially adopting these lovable animals to reach out. Contact the shelter at 541-774-6654, press 5 for adoptions, and start the process of welcoming these sweethearts into your loving home.
