Medford, Oregon- A Verizon network outage is preventing customers in Jackson County from calling or texting 911, according to Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon (ECSO).
The outage was reported to ECSO at 6:19 p.m. Monday. Testing by ECSO confirmed that Verizon users are unable to reach emergency services via voice or text. Other wireless carriers do not appear to be affected, officials said.
“Verizon has not provided an estimated time for repair,” ECSO said in a statement. “We will provide updates as we learn more.”
The agency advised residents to use a landline or a phone on a different carrier in the event of an emergency.
No cause for the outage has been announced. As of Monday evening, it remained unclear how many customers were impacted or whether other regions beyond Jackson County might be affected.
Medford Alert will continue to monitor this outage and provide updates as they become available.
UPDATE: ECSO personnel states they have tested the system and the problem has been resolved.
