Man Arrested After Shots Fired, Standoff in Cave Junction

Cave Junction, Oregon- A 31-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly firing multiple gunshots at two people and fleeing the scene on a stolen ATV, according to the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to reports of gunfire around 3:15 p.m. on April 29 in the 5200 block of Dick George Road. Upon arrival, deputies learned that the suspect, identified as Blaine Case, had arrived at the property and fired several rounds from a handgun toward two individuals, narrowly missing them. Authorities said four bullet holes were later found in a building near where the victims had been standing.

Case reportedly fled the scene before deputies arrived. While deputies searched the area, a neighboring resident called to report that his ATV had been stolen by an unknown man, later believed to be Case.

Based on information that Case might be residing on Holland Loop Road, deputies and Oregon State Police responded to that location. Upon arrival, they spotted the stolen ATV on the property. After a brief standoff, Case exited the residence and was taken into custody without further incident. The ATV was recovered and returned to its owner.

Case was booked into the Josephine County Jail on multiple charges, including two counts of attempted assault in the first degree, unlawful use of a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

No injuries were reported, and no further information has been released.
