Ramp Closures Expected at I-5 Exit 71 for Bridge Deck Replacement

I-5 Exit 71 Construction

Sunny Valley, Oregon– A bridge maintenance project will close two ramps at Interstate 5 Exit 71 in Sunny Valley for approximately one week beginning Sunday, May 4. The work involves replacing deteriorating bridge decks.

The closure affects the northbound off-ramp and the southbound on-ramp at Exit 71. These ramps will remain closed around the clock during the construction period. Other parts of the interchange will remain open, but detours will be required for certain routes.

During the closure, northbound I-5 travelers intending to exit at Sunny Valley will continue to Exit 76 (Wolf Creek), then return south to Exit 71. This detour adds roughly 10 miles to the trip.

Drivers traveling south from Sunny Valley onto I-5 will also use Exit 76. They will head north to that exit and then join southbound I-5. This detour is also approximately 10 miles.

Exit 76 includes an over-dimension restriction for vehicles wider than 15 feet. Affected drivers should contact the Oregon Over-Dimension Permit Unit at 503-373-0000 or via email at ccdorionsupport@odot.oregon.gov for assistance.

Officials are advising travelers to avoid local roads for detours. Secondary roads in the area are not suitable for high volumes of traffic or for commercial vehicles.

After the ramps reopen, crews will continue working in the area to complete the bridge deck replacement. Drivers are urged to remain alert, observe posted speed limits, and use caution in the work zone.

The project is expected to be fully completed by June 6.
