Grants Pass Pedestrian Killed in Collision with Vehicle on US-199

Near Grants Pass, Oregon- A pedestrian was killed in a vehicle collision on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, on Highway 199 near milepost 26 in Josephine County.

According to the Oregon State Police (OSP), troopers responded to the incident at approximately 5:40 a.m. The preliminary investigation indicates that Kale Phillip Luke, 31, of Grants Pass, was walking in the roadway when he was struck by a southbound Ford Escape. The vehicle was operated by Andrew Martin Vendrick, 39, of Santa Rosa, California.

Luke was pronounced deceased at the scene. Vendrick was reportedly uninjured.

The highway remained open during the investigation. Illinois Valley Fire and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) assisted OSP at the scene.

The incident is under investigation by the Oregon State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU), which specializes in fatal and critical injury crashes throughout the state.
