300+ Potential Non-Citizens Improperly Registered to Vote Due to State Error

Salem, Oregon- The Oregon Association of County Clerks (OACC) announced Monday that 302 individuals who may not be U.S. citizens were improperly registered to vote due to an error by the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles. The Secretary of State’s Elections Division identified the issue and notified OACC and county officials.

According to the Secretary of State’s office, the affected records were flagged and corrective action was taken. All counties completed the removal or adjustment of these records in accordance with the guidance issued by the Elections Division.

Because the notification occurred after ballots were mailed for the current election cycle, some of the affected individuals may have received a ballot. However, election officials confirmed that these ballots have been deactivated and will not be counted. Officials emphasized that any such ballots will be intercepted and rejected during the intake and verification process.

OACC reiterated its commitment to election integrity and stated that it will continue to comply with all state and federal laws, including procedures designed to prevent the counting of ineligible ballots.

“Oregon Clerks and Elections Officials follow state and federal laws, counting every eligible ballot cast in each election,” the association stated, “while keeping and maintaining safeguards so that ineligible ballots are not counted.”

The OACC pledged continued cooperation with the Oregon Secretary of State’s office to ensure secure and transparent elections across the state.
