Douglas County, Oregon- A single-vehicle crash on Highway 138E in Douglas County on Monday evening resulted in one fatality and one injury, according to the Oregon State Police (OSP).
At approximately 6:38 p.m. on April 7, OSP responded to the scene near milepost 28.5. A preliminary investigation indicated that a westbound Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Craig Francis Hindle, 65, of Merlin, crossed the roadway for unknown reasons. The vehicle left the eastbound shoulder and struck a tree.
The passenger, identified as Scoti Allena Hoadley, 34, of Grants Pass, was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hindle sustained what were described as minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The highway remained open during the investigation. OSP stated the cause of the crash remains under investigation. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) assisted at the scene.
