Oregon K-9 Tracks, Locates Suspect Following Stolen Vehicle Pursuit

Multnomah County, Oregon– A suspect who fled from a stolen vehicle was arrested Thursday evening after a coordinated pursuit involving multiple law enforcement agencies and the successful deployment of a Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) K-9 unit.

On April 3, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m., an MCSO deputy located an occupied stolen U-Haul truck in the parking lot of the Wood Village Fred Meyer. As the deputy approached, the driver fled the area, initiating a pursuit.

Law enforcement deployed a spike strip near NE 223rd Avenue and NE Park Lane, which was effective, though the vehicle continued traveling north on NE 223rd before turning west onto NE Sandy Boulevard. The pursuit entered Gresham, where officers from the Gresham Police Department assisted in tracking the vehicle.

The suspect continued west into Northeast Portland. Additional officers from the Portland Police Bureau joined the response, and a second spike strip was deployed successfully. The truck sustained three flat tires and came to a stop near NE Sandy Boulevard and NE 131st Place.

The driver fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood. MCSO K-9 Hans was deployed and located the suspect hiding under a deck. Gabriel Vogel, 38, was taken into custody at 6:49 p.m. No injuries or property damage were reported.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office acknowledged the cooperation of the Gresham Police Department and Portland Police Bureau in the incident, which concluded without further incident.
