Medford, Oregon- The Medford Water Reclamation Division (WRD) recently secured a $35,039 incentive from the Energy Trust of Oregon for its participation in the Strategic Energy Management (SEM) program. The WRD provides wastewater services to over 221,000 residents across Medford, Central Point, Eagle Point, White City, Talent, Phoenix, and Jacksonville.

Through its involvement in SEM, the WRD completed more than 12 energy-saving projects, achieving a 5.5% reduction in electricity consumption. These efforts have resulted in annual savings of over $17,000.

The SEM program focuses on identifying and implementing operational and infrastructure improvements that reduce energy use. As part of the initiative, the WRD developed strategies to optimize energy performance across its facilities. Moving forward, the division plans to focus on reducing natural gas usage to further enhance its energy efficiency.

Officials say the achievement underscores the City’s ongoing efforts to prioritize energy conservation and environmental stewardship. A WRD representative noted that the division is committed to pursuing additional energy-saving measures to benefit the community and the environment.

The WRD’s participation in the SEM program reflects a broader trend among public service agencies aiming to adopt sustainable practices while reducing operational costs. The incentive from the Energy Trust of Oregon provides further support for these efforts, enabling continued investment in energy-efficient solutions.
