Downtown Medford, Oregon- The City of Medford Urban Renewal Agency (MURA) has approved a $150,000 loan to complete renovations on the historic Elks Lodge located at 202 North Central Avenue. The funding is part of MURA’s ongoing efforts to revitalize downtown Medford.
The Elks Lodge, built in 1915 in the Beaux Arts architectural style, is undergoing upgrades to modernize the facility. The loan will support key improvements, including electrical upgrades for a commercial kitchen, the installation of HVAC systems, and accessibility enhancements such as a disability lift.
MURA’s loan includes a provision to forgive $50,000 of the amount if the building hosts at least four free community events annually over the next five years. This condition aims to ensure the space contributes to community engagement and cultural activities.
Portions of the renovated Elks Lodge will house new tenants, including The Copper Plank, which plans to open soon, and Fusion Dance, which will provide additional opportunities for community involvement.
MURA remarks the investment reflects the broader goals of the urban renewal district, which seeks to transform underutilized spaces into active hubs for local businesses and community events. Furthermore, these initiatives aim to preserve historic structures while promoting economic development and fostering a vibrant downtown area.
The completion of the Elks Lodge renovation marks a milestone in the ongoing efforts to blend Medford’s historic preservation with economic progress, creating a downtown environment that serves as a focal point for residents and businesses alike.
