Medford, Oregon- Medford Police Department is investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Friday, October 11, involving a vehicle and a bicyclist on South Pacific Highway. The incident, reported at 3:23 PM, resulted in the death of the bicyclist at the scene.
The area that the crash took place was closed for approximately 4 hours as authorities conducted an extensive investigation.
According to the preliminary investigation and witness reports, the bicyclist was traveling southbound in the designated bike lane when a vehicle, also heading southbound, drifted into the lane, striking the cyclist. The driver of the vehicle did not stop after the collision and fled the scene.
Medford police officers were able to quickly locate the suspect vehicle in a nearby parking lot and detained the driver. Despite immediate response from law enforcement and attempts at lifesaving measures, the bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
The Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team has been activated to assist with the ongoing investigation. Authorities have not yet released further details.
